Food Pantry and Frozen Meals

The Senior Centers have food pantries stocked with donations of nonperishable, canned and shelf-stable foods donated by Chatham County citizens and support groups. The Council on Aging purchases supplies, including paper products and personal hygiene items, to supplement the food items.

The pantry items are offered to people who are in need, usually because of recent and unforeseen financial and health situations. The pantries are open during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.

Frozen meals, the same as the lunches served in the centers, are available to people who qualify, aged 55 or older and not being served by a Meals on Wheels route. Participants must enroll in the program and be determined eligible. A week's worth of five frozen meals can be picked up Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons at either senior. For more informaiton contact Vickie or Dennis at 919-742-3975.

The frozen meals program is a collaborative effort between the Council on Aging, Carolina Meadows Retirement Community, the Chatham Department of Social Services and Chatham County.
